02/12/17 I TOOK A TRIP THROUGH TIME TODAY

02/12/17 I TOOK A TRIP THROUGH TIME TODAY

I had the great privilege to attend a Ceremony of Recognition for the Life Saving Crew of the Sarah D. J. Rawson off of Cape Lookout, February 1905.

But it was not only remembering the heroics of nine Surfmen in the U.S. Lifesaving Service, over a hundred years ago, who risked their lives in a mission 9 miles offshore from their island station. It was the opportunity to gather together at a public venue, with Coast Guardsmen, Congressman, Attorney at Law and a large room filled with people, who unashamedly raised the name of Jesus, gave praise to the God of the Bible, recognized the merciful work of the God of our fathers.

I especially appreciated the heritage and culture which was celebrated. I am a Promisleander, I am a Moreheader, I am a Carteret Countian, I am a descendant and relative to the hardy bankers of Diamond City, Harkers Island, Marshallberg, Salter Path, Promiseland. I have become more aware of my family ties in the past few years, and since living in Beaufort the information has been coming in like a flood. I have always known that my family background was rich with spiritual champions, as well as boat builders, whalers, fishermen, and vikings but now I am getting to meet others who share some of the same heritage.

Special thanks to friends and family from The Island and Free Grace Wesleyan Church who have welcomed my family into their lives.
