12/15/17 THE IMPORTANCE OF HOPE

12/15/17 THE IMPORTANCE OF HOPE

HOPE SEES THE UNSEEABLE
FAITH SECURES THE UNSEEABLE
LOVE SHOWS THE UNSEEABLE. NOW ABIDE THESE THREE.

FAITH, HOPE AND LOVE are abiding gifts from God to His children.
1 Corinthians 13:13
13 And now abideth faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

LIVING BY FAITH sometimes requires us to have hope before we have faith.
Hebrews 11:1
1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

DLG note...
In this passage faith follows hope.
In this passage, that which is hoped for is unseen.
Sometimes we have to hope for something from God before we can believe God for it.
Sometimes we have to hope for that which is totally beyond our vision.
Before we understand or see the miracle hand of God, hope gives us a glimpse of that which does not yet exist, is not yet visible.

HOPE SEES THE UNSEEABLE
Remember, hope sees the unseeable. If it is seeable, we don't need to hope for it.
Romans 8:24-27
24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?
25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.
26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

SOMETIMES OUR HOPE SEEMS HOPELESS and we must hope when there is no hope.
Paul said that Abraham was reduced to hoping when his hope was gone. There was nothing to encourage Abraham except the fact that he believed in God.
Romans 4:18
18 Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.

DLG note...
We are told this as an encouragement to hope in God when it seems there is no hope.

SOMETIMES ALL WE CAN DO IS HOLD FAST TO CHRIST AS OUR HOPE
1 Timothy 1:1

1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope;

OUR HOPE IS AN ANCHOR OF OUR SOUL.
Hebrews 6:19

19 Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;

CONTINUE TO HOPE IN GOD, NO MATTER WHAT THE OUTWARD EVIDENCE MAY BE.
Psalms 43:5

5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.
