12/05/17 REPOST OF 12/14/13

12/05/17 REPOST OF 12/14/13 OBEDIENCE IN THE NEW TESTAMENT

Wuz think'n... What does the New Testament say about obeying God?

We know that nature obeys God (Mt. 8:27).
We know that evil spirits (who are opposed to God) are compelled to obey His direct commands (Mk. 1:27).
We even know that Jesus, as a human being, learned what it would take for a human being to be obedient to the Father.

Jesus does not require anything from us that we are not capable of giving, by His grace (He. 5:8-9).

Hebrews 5:8-9
8  Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
9  And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

What does the New Testament say about human beings and obedience to God? My comment gives 17 passages addressing this question. I give titles to each passage. If you hear anyone teach contrary to obedient faith, they are teaching a lie.

NEW TESTAMENT AND OBEDIENCE...

OBEDIENCE TO GOD IS TOP PRIORITY
Acts 5:29

(29) Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

THE OBEDIENT RECEIVE HOLY SPIRIT
Acts 5:32

(32) And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

DISOBEDIENCE IS SIGN OF REJECTING GOD
Acts 7:39

(39) To whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust him from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt,

GRACE ENABLES OBEDIENCE
Romans 1:5

(5) By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name:

DISOBEDIENCE BRINGS GOD'S JUDGMENT
Romans 2:7-11

(7) To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:
(8) But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,
(9) Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;
(10) But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:
(11) For there is no respect of persons with God.

WE EITHER OBEY SIN OR RIGHTEOUSNESS
Romans 6:12-18
(12) Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
(13) Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
(14) For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
(15) What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
(16) Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
(17) But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
(18) Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

OBEDIENCE TO GOD IS NOTE WORTHY
Romans 16:19

(19) For your obedience is come abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil.

GRACE RESULTS IN OBEDIENCE OF FAITH
Romans 16:24-26

(24) The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
(25) Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,
(26) But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:

BRING EVERY THOUGHT OBEDIENT TO CHRIST
2 Corinthians 10:3-5

(3) For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
(4) (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
(5) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

DEMONIC INFLUENCE LEADS TO DISOBEDIENCE
Galatians 3:1-3

(1) O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?
(2) This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
(3) Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?

SATAN IS AUTHOR OF SINNING RELIGION
Galatians 5:6-9

(6) For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.
(7) Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth?
(8) This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you.
(9) A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.

THE DISOBEDIENT ARE PUNISHED FOREVER
2 Thessalonians 1:7-9

(7) And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,
(8) In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
(9) Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;

OBEDIENCE IS ESSENTIAL TO SALVATION
Hebrews 5:9

(9) And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

WE ARE ELECTED AND SANCTIFIED IN ORDER TO BE OBEDIENT
1 Peter 1:2

(2) Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

OBEDIENCE IS ESSENTIAL TO PURITY
1 Peter 1:22

(22) Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

DISOBEDIENCE IS SIGN OF BEING LOST
1 Peter 3:1

(1) Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;

THE PEOPLE OF GOD OBEY
1 Peter 4:17

(17) For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?

TAKE NOTICE...

The New Testament never speaks disparagingly of those who obey God, as we hear so often from people who promote sinning religion today. Nor does the New Testament ever allow or approve of those who disobey God.
