While I was focused on a particular subject, all of a sudden, seemingly out of nowhere, a negative and hurtful thought came to mind. Some time ago, a person I don't even know and have only seen a couple of times, intentionally said something unkind to me, which was intended to hurt me. Though I continued to concentrate on my other project, the adversary of God and peace tried to divert my thoughts. I responded by just leaving it with God. Immediately the nagging devil was defeated.
BUT IT CAUSED ME TO REALIZE
As I was thinking about how tormenting a non issue can be, I realized that some people take their anger, their hurt, their spite, their suspicions, their thoughts of retaliation to the grave with them. They do not bring every thought captive to the obedience of Christ, when Satan attacks their minds, and as a result they harbor and empower nagging, destructive, bitter thoughts throughout their lives.
HOWEVER
When a person does not turn loose of the negative, nasty, mean thoughts and insults (the thoughts that are not Christlike), they are not only plagued with those thoughts to the grave, they carry their diseased minds into eternity and suffer unrelenting and increasing attacks forever.
IT IS BETTER
God's plan is for us to forgive and love our foes, our friends and our family and to turn to Jesus when we are attacked by Satan. If we will not abandon evil thoughts in this life, we will be tortured by them forever. The longer you hold on to something, the harder it is to turn loose of it. Owning the things that corrupt you leads to those things owning you.
