10/31/17 RECOMMENDED MOVIE

10/31/17 RECOMMENDED MOVIE

We watched the movie, "Woodlawn," which was made within the past couple of years and starring Sean Astin, on PureFlix.com last night. It really is a great movie, with a super message of true spiritual conflict and real world discipleship and personal victory as well as societal "redemption and lift."

One of the things that impressed me the most was that the movie presented the reality of a mighty spiritual movement taking place in the late 60s and into the 70s. It was supernatural, it was incendiary. It was not imaginary or simply emotional, though it does seem dreamlike and fanciful today. (In fact, I think it is that excitement and adventure that appeals to my grandchildren when I tell them about being a Christian five decades ago. It was a great deal like being a Christian in the days of the apostles).

This is what I referred to in an earlier post about Philadelphia and Laodicea. The movement of God did not happen because there was no pressure on the people or because Satan was taking a nap, or because salvation was easy and cheap or because people did not have other things that consumed their time. Those days were tumultuous, and the conflict between light and darkness was real, was evident, was upending. Sin was running rampant with "free and open sex" as never before in America, and the seeds of anti-American, anti-family, anti-Christian movements exploding on the scene (which are now in full bloom in our society).

Sadly, those days of open and bold Christian witness were passing too quickly and today we are in a post Christian society that has no idea what it is like to have an explosive Christian subculture spreading across America, changing entire communities.
