"The greatest of these is love" (of faith, hope, love). Love is more excellent way than the gifts. Love is... and the Biblical list goes on and on (as you have seen in many of my other postings).
I also believe BIBLICAL LOVE, GODLIKE LOVE is essential to the understanding of the word of God, essential to the performance of Biblical directives, essential to victorious living. PERFECT LOVE is the work of God in us through the Baptism with the Holy Spirit. The fulness of the Holy Spirit, the infilling of Perfect Love, cleanses us from all sin and enables our minds to comprehend truth as it ought to be comprehended and enables us to live godly lives, as we were intended to live them.
However, the experience of Entire Sanctification (which begins at our total surrender, when God infills us) does not give us the understanding that we should have. Perfect Love prepares our hearts and minds to be informed, enlightened.
The Christians graces, the Fruit of the Spirit, the Gifts of the Spirit, the work of ministry, the Christian walk, the unity of the body, the growth in grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus, the understanding of truth and holiness of heart and life, the right relationships with other people (saved or unsaved), are all dependent on having a heart that is purified (even as Christ is pure) and filled with, repeatedly filled with, constantly filled with PERFECT LOVE.
Without perfect love there is the flesh (carnality) and the flesh is contrary to the Spirit of God, no matter what your background, your experiences, your beliefs, your relationships. Without love we are like sounding brass or a tinkling cymbal.
I HAVE WATCHED
I have watched as people, who claim to believe in, and claim to walk in perfect love actually become cultic. They live in bondage and legalism, they try to minister to others, while leaving out the main part of ministry, LOVE.
I have watched as groups implement a destructive and self centered form of SHUNNING in order to bring people to subjection to their views.
I have watched people interpret the Bible and attempt to manifest the power of the Holy Spirit, only to misrepresent God and His word and actually make the Scriptures and the Holy Spirit their servants.
I have watched as churches and individuals follow the shadow of ministry, but have no substance of ministry, because they have not been perfected in love or because they have not followed fully in perfect love.
